"I can’t say enough good things about Jared and Ivanka [Trump]," she said. "Jared is such a hidden genius that no one understands."

Haley gave Kushner credit for renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) deal last week.

"To redo the NAFTA deal the way he did," she said, listing off his accomplishments. "What I’ve done working with him on the Middle East peace plan ... it is so unbelievably well-done."

Haley also called Ivanka Trump a "great friend."

"They do a lot of things behind the scenes that I wish more people knew about," she said. "We’re a better country because they’re in this administration."

Haley during the public announcement said she will not be running in 2020, vowing that she will campaign for the president that year.

Trump, sitting alongside Haley, told reporters she wanted to “take a break” from public service. He said she would be welcome back in any position she wanted.

Multiple reports have indicated that those close to Haley were blindsided by her decision to leave the administration.
